The LA County Master Gardeners make their triumphant return to the Mar Vista Farmers Market in true holiday fashion: BRIMMING with the gift of many seedlings for your winter gardens. Drop by The Green Tent on Sunday, November 8, from 9 am to 1 pm at the corner of Grand View and Pacific, where you can select from a multitude of herbs, vegetable and flowers.
SEEDLING TYPES
Fennel, a perennial with its feathery fronds and yellow flowers, with the taste of anise.
Chamomile, Pretty little white flowers when dried make a lovely tea
Chives will dress up your eggs or anything else you sprinkle them on.
Thyme is used in soups, salads, with Thanksgiving sweet potatoes and so much more, with tiny purple flowers and little round leaves
Lemon Balm, known for its calming effects without drowsiness.
Oregano for use in all things Italian, Greek and you name it.
Marjoram, a perennial herb similar to oregano but with sweet pine and citrus flavors
Mint, literally a runaway hit — don’t plant it in soil, put it in a pot where it won’t invade the garden.
Or you can choose from these veggie babies:
Broccoli
Lettuce
Sugar Snap Peas
And to decorate with Marigolds. Plus their leaves are edible and their seeds, when you let them dry in their pods, look like tiny feathered arrows.
